Hi, would like to hear from anyone who served with George while he was in the Irish Defence Forces and the Australian Army either in Australia or Vietnam, Any info or photographs would be much appreciated.
Just surfing the net and found this site quite by chance, which I really enjoyed. I am a former Irish soldier and UN Vet, 82nd and 83rd Irish bns UNIFIL. My home unit was the 28th inf bn (The Black Lions) Who are located at Finner Camp Co. Donegal. Lest we should forget!!
I served with 9 rar a friend of mine Jimmy Jellett was one of his mates he was wounded and sent home. I was a pioneer and a driver with 9 rar. This is a great web page. Regards Lionel
Thank you for remembering my uncle like this, it is so nice to know he had such good mates. While I was only a baby when he died, i've always felt his shadow in my life. George Nagle, Ireland.
Here's to George a jovial mate all thourgh my army journey from Kapook (recruit training) to 9RAR and on to the Jungles of Vietnam and a devistating sad parting of our ways. A great bloke who's wicked Irish smile will always remain in my memory till I join him for a beer. Cheers mate!!!! Glen (Sig Alpha Coy 9RAR) P.S I have a photo of our platoon in Kapooka which I will get to you you as soon as I am back in Austalia.
Thanks to all ex 9RAR members for your guest book entries remembering George Nagle. I am hoping to develope the site further, so if anyone wishes to send me any details / info or photographs of George during his service in 9RAR and vietnam for use on the site I would appreciate it. My email is wsos50@hotmail.com. thanks again, Walter
I knew George very well,a Larrikin that we loved & miss,Thanks for sending us this site link, George was a very Good Lad & a Good Soldier. Allan Tonkin ex 5PL B Coy 9 RAR.
George was a member of 5platoon and was a great guy. None of us who knew him will ever forget him. He had that wild Irish streak in him that set him apart from many others. Wally McLeod ex 5platoon B Coy 9RAR
George was a very good mate of mine and we shared some great times prior to our embarkation to Vietnam with 9 RAR. He was fiercely proud of his Irish heritage, but also proud to be a soldier in the Australian Army. After 40 years I still think of him and the others who never made it back.
I did not know George Nagle but know his name appears on the Wall in Washington, and is recorded in a website www.irishonthewall.com. A group from 9RAR went back to Vietnam in Nov. 2008 to be at Nui Dat on the 40th anniversary of our arrival there in 1968. Warwick Archer ex 8 Pl. C Coy. 9RAR http://www.users.bigpond.com/archerw/military.htm
Just finished reading "The war within". Well done. strongly recommended. Lt. Robert Convery also died whilst serving with 9RAR. English born, Irish heritage. Regards Brian
A wonderful work of dedication. I was in Vietnam in D co 1 RAR, 4th RAR/NZ and D company 9RAR from June 1969 to Dec 69. The battalion book is available on DVD from the NSW association. You can also acess the war diaries of all battalions at the Australian War Memorial site in their "COLLECTIONS" Regards Barney
